| HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital receives The Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certification for Stroke |
HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ from The Joint Commission for Stroke Rehabilitation. HealthSouth Deaconess is proud to be the first and only Joint Commission disease-certified stroke rehabilitation hospital in the state of Indiana and the tri-state area. HealthSouth Deaconess earned this distinction after the Joint Commission conducted an on-site review. “HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital demonstrated that its stroke care program follows national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients,” says Jean E. Range, M.S., R.N., C.P.H.Q., Executive Director, Disease-Specific Care Certification, Joint Commission. Each year about 700,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke, which is the nation’s third leading cause of death. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 45 seconds and someone dies of a stroke every 3.1 minutes. Twenty-year-old Kayla Watkins experienced a traumatic brain injury during a four-wheeler accident. While at HealthSouth, Kayla had physical, occupational and speech therapy. Her rehabilitation led to an amazing recovery.
The NESS L300, a Bioness technology available at Deaconess HealthSouth, is designed to help patients with foot drop walk independently. Foot drop is caused by damage to the nervous system that occurs through neurological injuries such as spinal cord injury, brain injury, multiple sclerosis or stroke. Foot drop occurs when the brain or spine sends incorrect signals to the foot causing the toes not to pick up while walking.
There are many physical and emotional injuries children experience while playing sports.
